August 3, 2009

Mid-Missourians who ride OATS can rest assured they will arrive at their destination safely, due to OATS’ continued efforts. Jack Heusted, Mid-Missouri Regional Director, has completed a three-day training session to become a Certified Vehicle Maintenance Manager. These workshops, geared toward enhancing the skills of maintenance technicians and maintenance managers through a series of specialized topics, result in enhanced safety for all OATS passengers.

OATS BusSince completing the course, Jack Heusted is better prepared to keep the vehicles in operation safe, clean and reliable at the proper level of fiscal control. Jack says of the course, “All transit managers deal with maintenance of their fleet. Here at OATS we transport a very special cargo and that could be your mother, grandmother or neighbor. We want them and their family to know we provide safe and reliable transportation.”

The three-day training session focused on topics such as Maintenance Management, Program Development, Staff Skills and Labor Hours, The Tires for Your Buses and Fleet Economics Budget. Heusted says, “Any time you can further your knowledge and skills in the job you perform makes you feel good about yourself and the value you bring to the company you work for.”

The Vehicle Maintenance Management and Inspection (VMMI) program is important to OATS because it will help to control cost, which helps OATS continue to grow. “In today's tough economy, we all are looking for ways to control cost. This certification will assist in evaluating the vehicle maintenance program and process in the Mid-Missouri Region to accomplish this,” said Heusted.
