Important update: in light of the current situation with the Coronavirus outbreak, which has forced schools and other public places to close- OATS Transit will delay the start of the Arnold City service until April 2020. We will re-evaluate the situation as changes happen over the next few weeks and provide an update as we know more.
OATS Transit is pleased to announce the reinstatement of JeffCo Express service to residents of the City of Arnold. Just one month after shutting down the service due to lack of local funding, the Arnold City Council voted this week to continue supporting the service. The Council voted to fund service for another year.
OATS Transit will start the public transportation service back on Monday, March 23, 2020. Service will consist of four loops that run from 7AM to 5PM through the City. “We are happy the City Council voted to reinstate transportation services to Arnold residents,” said Dorothy Yeager, OATS Transit Executive Director. “Public transportation is vital to ensure residents have access to community resources, and is needed to boost the local economy,” added Yeager.
At the end of the year OATS Transit officials will review options for new federal grant opportunities. As with any federal grants, those funds come with the stipulation that local money is needed as match. Arnold service is funded in part by a Federal Transit Administration 5310 urban grant through Bi-State Development. The remaining 50% will come from the City of Arnold. In addition to the Arnold service, OATS Transit operates the JeffCo Express Cross-County blue and green routes, OATS Transit for seniors and individuals with disabilities, and the JC Transit service for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Jefferson County residents wanting to schedule a ride can call the OATS Transit office at 636-933-9380. Schedules can be found online at www.oatstransit.org/jefferson.
